Whitecliff Furnace

Site Owner: Dean Heritage Museum Trust

Whitecliff Furnace is an 18th century blast furnace  within an ironworking complex.

The site was part-owned by the metallurgist David Mushet, and was partly experimental.

It was one of the first coke fuelled furnaces in the Forest of Dean and it represents the next industrial phase to Abbey Tintern furnace (Tintern) which was also owned for a short period by the Mushets. Unfortunately it was never very profitable due to the mix of the rich Forest of Dean Iron ore and coke  It is of local and national industrial heritage significance.
