Chase Wood History

Sharp flint tools found on Chase Hill may indicate the existence of a hilltop
meeting-place here as early as Neolithic times around 3500BC.

Fast forward to around 400BC in the Iron Age and this hilltop vantage point was
encircled by ramparts (banks and ditches), which are best preserved on the
southern side. This too may have been a gathering place where an entire
segment of a tribe lived from time to time to make exchanges, and celebrate
festivals.

Similar hillforts are found at several places along the Wye Valley.
